Project settings
Project settings
Who can do this: Owner (the Edit item is shown only to owners, and the save is checked again on the server). Rights are explained once in the .
What it's for
The Edit dialog (titled Edit Project) holds the settings that apply to the whole project: its name, its address, whether it is public, the language and clock its messages use, its default currency, and a few optional features. Everything else (people, portal, channels) has its own menu item; see the .
Before you start
Open it from the admin menu (the cog in the navigator header, or the ⋮ menu on a project card) and choose Edit.
Some switches are not yours to flip. Software development appears only if your administrator has enabled it for the installation, and Demo project appears only to platform administrators. See "Project features" below.
The same dialog opened with Add Project creates a new project. Create-only differences are noted in each row.
The settings
Setting (label) | What it does | Default | Risk |
|---|---|---|---|
Name | The project's display name in lists, the navigator and emails | None. Required | Low. Rename any time |
Alias | The project's address. Becomes | On create, suggested from the name; a digit is appended if the name is taken | High to change after you have shared links. See "Changing the alias" |
Published | Edit dialog only. Turns the project's public pages on or off. Reads Visible in public portal when on and Hidden from public portal when off | Off for a new project | Medium. See "Published" |
Default project language | The language of the project's assistant chat and documents. Also the language the platform uses for messages it sends on the project's behalf | The language of your interface when you create the project; English if that language is not offered | Low |
Time zone | The clock your team's dates are shown in, including notifications | A new project takes your browser's zone. A project with none set runs on UTC | Medium. See "Time zone" |
Default currency | The currency a new money column adopts; also the anchor for exchange-rate conversion | No default currency | Low. A column can still override it |
Project features | Optional capabilities. See below | All off | Varies |
Languages offered: English, Chinese (Simplified), Indonesian, Russian, Spanish, Portuguese. Each is shown in its own name.
Alias rules
The field accepts only lowercase letters, digits and hyphens; anything else you type is removed. The status line under the field tells you the result: Checking availability…, Available, Current (unchanged), "This alias is already taken", "This alias is reserved", or the format message. All of these must hold:
3 to 30 characters.
Lowercase letters, digits and hyphens only.
Does not start or end with a hyphen and does not contain --.
Contains at least one letter. 2024 is refused; 1c-import is fine.
Is not on the reserved list: juxtaboard, www, app, api, admin, corp, ai, mail, static, cdn, assets, status, docs, help, support, ws, sock, realtime, clf, devprox, mcp.
Is not used by another project on this installation.
A project created under older rules may hold an alias that breaks one of these. You can still save other settings while leaving that alias unchanged. The check applies only when you change it.
Changing the alias
The alias is part of addresses other people may already hold. From the code, these change when you rename it:
The public page address (/public/<alias>/…, or <alias>. on your domain). I found no redirect from the old alias, so old links stop working.
The customer portal address (/portal/<alias>) and the portal API paths customer apps call (/api/portal/<alias>/…).
The demo guest link (/demo/<alias>), if the project has one.
Custom domains attached to the project are updated automatically, so those keep working.
Careful: renaming the alias breaks every link you have already sent to customers or put on a website. Change it only before you share anything, or plan to resend the links.
An email inbox you have already created keeps its address when you rename the alias. The address is stored on the inbox when it is created (by default <alias>@<inbound email domain>), and incoming mail is matched against that stored address. Mail sent to the old address keeps arriving in the same inbox. Only inboxes you create after the rename get the new alias in their default address. Another project that later takes your old alias cannot create an inbox on that address while yours holds it.
Published
A page is public only when both the item and the project are published (). Published is the project half. Turning it off hides all public pages at once. Turning it on exposes nothing by itself. The label says "public portal", but it means the public pages at the alias address, not the customer portal (sign-in) described in .
Time zone
Choose from the list. It starts with your browser's zone, then UTC, then the full list your browser offers.
The dialog shows Loading… until the project's real value is read. It does not let you save a guess: while it is loading, the field is left untouched by the save.
The server refuses a name it cannot render in.
A change shows in messages within about half a minute (the setting is cached briefly per server process).
If the zone is wrong, a 10:00 booking is announced at the wrong hour. Set it before you switch on booking or reminders.
Project features
Under Project features, each feature is a button that is pressed when on.
Feature | What it does | Who sees the button |
|---|---|---|
Agents | Lets saved AI agents run, including the customer-chat agent that answers incoming messages. Turned off, all agent runs stop even if agents exist. The Agents admin page opens either way, but warns that agents will not run | Every owner |
Portal AI | Adds an AI assistant to the customer portal that reads only what the signed-in customer may see. Also switchable under External Portals (Overview, AI assistant), where Manage Members is enough | Every owner |
Software development | Adds a Components section here (git repositories), a Source code tab in the navigator and the Git Sync menu item. Not needed for a business project | Only if your administrator enabled it, or the project already has it (so you can switch it off) |
Demo project | Gives every team user on the installation read-only access with AI chat. Has its own options: Demo business type, One-click guest link | Platform administrators only |
The code comment on Agents says the customer-chat agent builds on the portal toolset, so turn on Portal AI with it.
Needs your administrator: to see Software development here, an administrator must switch the feature on for the installation (System, Config). If the button is missing, that is why. Ask for it only if you run a software project; business projects do not need it.
Careful: Agents and Portal AI let an AI act on customer messages and portal data. Switch them on after you have set who may see what ().
Steps to change a setting
Open the admin menu and choose Edit.
Change the field. Watch the status line under Alias.
Choose Save Changes. If the alias is taken or the plan is at its limit, a message appears in the dialog and nothing is saved.
When you create a project, the buttons at the bottom are Create empty project and Create & set up; see . A project with Software development on uses Add Project instead.
Branding
Branding (colours, fonts, corner radius, logo) is not in this dialog. It is opened from a storefront's editor with a button labelled Brand & theme. That label is fixed English text, not in the translation file. It saves a theme shared by the project's sites, portal and public pages, and saving needs the Edit right. Covered in .
How to check it worked
Reopen Edit: the fields show the saved values.
After changing the alias, open the public address shown under Where this alias is used.
After changing Time zone, open a notification or a date in a table and compare with your wall clock.
Undo / what can go wrong
Every field can be edited back, except that links already shared under an old alias stay broken until you resend them.
Saving does not overwrite Time zone or Default currency when the dialog could not read them. The code leaves them as they were.
Default currency is also editable under the navigator's Project Outlines menu, FX rates. The last save wins.
Plan limits apply to creating projects: at the limit, the message says "You've reached your plan's limit of N projects. Upgrade to add more."
